Habitat Assessments and Special-Status Species Surveys
In order to determine the presence or absence of a particular species, SBI conducts habitat assessments and special-status species surveys. These measures identify potential threats and determine how species utilize their habitats. Because the Bay Area houses a variety of sensitive reptiles and amphibians, habitat assessments and species surveys provide the ability for "meaningful mitigation" and "constraints-based planning". SBI's expertise includes reviewing scientific literature, preparing habitat assessments for special-status reptiles and amphibians, conducting species surveys to comply with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and regulatory agency requirements, and identifying "site-planning" solutions.
Resource Management and Habitat Conservation
The San Francisco Bay area has a greater need for Resource Management Plans (RMPs) and Habitat Conservation plans (HCPs) and we have the expertise to handle the demand. SBI utilizes its experience in biological surveys, field ecology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and habitat restoration to meet the requirements of RMPs and HCPs.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
SBI incorporates the use of GIS into many of its projects in order to provide the client with a catered visual representation. Throughout a project, our GIS specialists produce highly effective visuals to aid our environmental assessments, land use analyses and resource management plans (RMPs), among others. Today's GIS technology allows for the production of project-specific graphics (i.e. special status species maps) such as general plans, grading analyses, visual analyses and environmental inventories.
